I live in the sky.  I have always envied folks who are more grounded.  Folks who are content to put down roots and stay anchored in place.  But that is just not my nature.  I try to stay put.  And I make myself miserable.  Until one day the wind blows just a wee bit stronger than the day before and that is enough to give me that little lift I need.  To set me free from past expectations.  In this piece, you can see the hole left in the ground when this little house pulled up from her foundation and took to the sky.  The words in this painting read, "Time to move on."  She probably struggled and wiggled and tugged for quite sometimes before she broke free, but today is the day and this little house is ready for her future!

I am hopeful this bold playful landscape will bring a much needed whiff of the Wild Blue Yonder into your home or office.  To help you remember that your time will come.

How Wild Blue was created...  After the black gesso primer dried, I used my fingers to push acrylic modeling paste into the wonderfully natural, irregular, three-dimensional ridges that form the lines of this painting.  Once those ridges dried, I used palette knives first and then brushes to lay down countless layers of color all across the piece.  There are teeny bits of surprising color peaking out through the various applications of paint that make up the ground area.  Finally, I completed the painting using tiny detail brushes to add the words and key highlights on the charming little house.

Wild Blue was painted on a large, fine, hand-stretched canvas. A fellow in Arizona makes these just for professional artists. It is incredibly sturdy, built on hefty kiln-dried wood that will keep your painting in proper shape for generations. The image continues around the 1.5" deep staple-free sides of the canvas providing a striking profile and allowing you to display your new painting unframed if you like.
