Gouache paint on acid-free mat board

(Enlarged to show details)

ABOUT THIS PIECE This is a Gaillardia blossom.  It is one of three floral studies I did from direct observation.  My mother is an amazing gardener and she picked three special blossoms for me to paint during a recent visit.

This is a lovely soft painting with an interesting composition.  The flower is reaching towards the light.  Because of that feeling - of growth in progress - this painting inspires me.  Makes me feel more hopeful somehow.

HOW IT WAS MADE:  Gouache is like watercolor, only it is opaque rather than transparent.  I use this media in much the same manner that I use acrylics.  The difference is that these colors can be blended with water and are capable of much softer, more gradual transitions.  This media is also less forgiving than traditional acrylic paint and requires more forethought and more patience.  (Which is why I do not use it very often!  Patience and forethought are hard for me.)

DISPLAY OPTIONS:  This image was painted on acid-free mat board.  You will want to frame this piece to protect your investment.  To frame your new painting affordably, you can buy a ready-made frame at your local home or discount store and then bring the frame with the painting to a custom-framer.  The framer can mat the painting to fit the frame.
