Oil pastel over ink, on acid-free mat board

(Enlarged to show details.)

I love this piece.  This one captures where I am at in life personally right now, so it makes me really happy.  That pumpkin has the best expression.  Ha!  What fun.

This piece will frame up beautifully!  It will also reproduce beautifully for those of you who collect giclees.  And I am sure I will eventually have it produced as a postcard as well.

This drawing is for any of you out there facing a new chapter in your life.  Taking a risk.

How this drawing was created.....   First, I used artists markers filled with colored India ink to create a vivid underpainting.  Then I used oil pastels to layer luscious colors atop that base.  Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  After I completed all of the color work, I used a dental tool to scratch through to the ink below in order to create sharper edges.

You Sure I Can Fly? was drawn on acid-free white mat board.  You will want to frame this charming piece to protect your investment.  One affordable means of framing is to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the artwork together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame.
