(Zeus' puppy picture from Petfinder.) Meet Zeus. This beautiful fellow is a mixed-breed mystery dog. (I think he is a Sheltie-Golden Retriever mix.) He was born on November 13th, 2003, and he was the runt of his litter. His Mom could not care for all of her pups and Zeus began to fail. When he was just 5 days old, some kind souls took him in and bottle fed him every two hours! At that time, Zeus was partially paralyzed. The theory is that his dog Mom may have accidentally stepped on her smallest pup. Zeus' foster parents were both nurses, and they treated this lucky pup to daily physical therapy. He is now nearly fully recovered. He is not likely to improve beyond his current state, but the only lasting affects of his early life are an incredibly endearing floppy right ear and a cute tilt to his head. He will grow to be about thirty pounds or so. Zeus is an intelligent, gentle sweetheart and we are overjoyed to have him in our family. UPDATE: Zeus is 50lbs now and he is the funniest guy! This dog just has a goofy, silly personality and he is so sweet and friendly. I really got lucky. There were more lasting affects from the paralysis than I first realized. Zeus is blind in one eye which means he walks into stuff if I do not "drive" him carefully when we are on walks. It also means he only eats the left side of his food. :) It is too funny. His food dish always has food on the right side. I have gotten in the habit of turning the dish around whenever we walk by it. And I can tell when he has gotten into the cats' food because the left side of their food is missing. He also looses his balance easily. What else? Oh, Zeus sings! Whenever he hears the harmonica, Zeus throws his head back and howls along. It is hysterical.
