About this Site....

In 1999, I built www.FlyingGirl.com as a way to share my art.  That site remains open as a gallery featuring my work from 1996 through late 2008.  You can learn more about the early development of my career by visiting FlyingGirl.

It is now November of 2008 and I am building this site, www.SimpleTermsArt.com, as a gallery to feature my new works.  From late 2008 on.  I found over time that I was creating images to fit the FlyingGirl ID and that was limiting the range of content available to me as well as curtailing stylistic exploration, too.  SimpleTerms is a place for me to run wild.  I like to create rules for myself and to categorize things, but I am determined not to do that here.  No rules.  No restrictions.  The sky is the limit.

I expect there will be sweet and gentle pieces here, and humorous pieces here, and landscapes, too.  Just as there were on FlyingGirl.  But there will be other bolder pieces here, too.  More challenging pieces.  I hope I am able to keep the inner librarian at bay and really push some boundaries here.  I am intrigued by many of the expressionist painters and by contemporaries like Kelly Moore and Fabio Napoleoni.  I love folk art from a host of different cultures and traditions.  I enjoy works by the color field painters.  And works by contemporary folks like David Oleski and Karin Jurick.  Mostly, I feel an urgent need these days to cut through the crap and get to the heart of things.  Without concern for external definitions of what is good or valuable or bending my visions to fit one genre or another.  Trusting my gut.
