About this drawing: The prairie feels to me like ocean.  Vast and swaying and full of mystery.  I especially like this time of year when the different crops change color.  What was a uniform sea of green in the Spring becomes a quilt.  With patches of gold and green and ochre and darker green.  Depending on what is planted there.  Depending on whether the hay has been rolled up already.  A giant endless quilt.  And what grows there, or what was growing there, those plants will feed and warm us through the Winter.

This is an original Crayola crayon drawing.  Crayon is one of my favorite mediums, but it is labor intensive and using crayons hurts my hand.  A lot.  My hand aches for days after I create a few crayon pieces.  So I do not work in crayon as often as I would like.  But I am always so excited by the results.  There is something special about crayon pieces.  Something sweet and simple, but also special.  Like stained glass, almost.  Anyway, I hope you like it.  I created this one for some friend out there who enjoys the prairie seas as I do.
