About this painting: The rough messy paintings, the ones that are not too finished, that feel expressive and emotional and unself-conscious.  I love those paintings the best.  But I also feel the most vulnerable when I share them. 

If I painted this piece where the rats looked exactly like real rats and the lines were all crisp and neat, I know it would make a certain impression.  There is a level of respect granted just for crafting art well.  For execution.  But when you let that go a little and you allow yourself out in the light in a form that is more raw, more pure, then you are left there with only your feelings, your dream, on display.  No fancy brushwork.  It takes a kind of courage I never had before.

I love these goofy rats.  I am not sure what they survived.  But they are happy the ordeal is behind them.  To celebrate, they put on pointy hats and did a silly dance.  My kind of people, these rats.  They feel like friends now.
